“Street Mode Festival”, the biggest street culture festival in Greece, was completed with overwhelming success on Saturday 22th of September in the central square of the Municipality of Thermi in Thessaloniki.
The audience had the chance to enjoy a free of charge program involving contests and exhibitions of graffiti, breakdance, street dance, skateboarding and concerts of rap, reggae, funk and punk rock music.
The bad weather of the original date of the festival (16 Sept.) forced organizers to move the entire program one week later (22 Sept.) dedicating the initial day to graffiti as the space that held the corresponding event (underground tunnel of the square) was not affected by rain.
So the festival held regularly and without any other program change in Saturday, September 22th with the arrival of the world to be greater than ever. It is estimated that in the afternoon more than 3.000 people where present at the area of the fest!
“Street Mode Festival” took place for fourth time in a row. It is a part of the annual youth fest of the local youth council of the Municipality of Thermi and exists in the framework of «Thermi’s Dromena», organized by Giannis Efstathiou (Nox1).
In the creation of the vast, 70 meters long, graffiti painting which is now decorating the underground tunel of the square participated 23 of the top Greek graffiti artists (Live2, G. Mavridis, Jasone, Ser, Simoni, Apset, Ino, Lune, Rino, Insane, Risk, Rasel, Inva, Domez, Zek, Think, Ionas, Onare, Fatcaps Crew, Miro, Krast, Ashos).
Skateboarding ramps were placed in the specially designed skating rink of the square for all the skaters who were there.
The breakdance competition took place in the amphitheater of the square where 16 dancers battled for the win, in one vs one kind of battles. The first position and the 150 euro prize was won by b-boy Revo while the second position and the 100 euro prize was won by b-boy Saspens. The judges were: Pyro, Tricky and Wane while DJ of the contest and also the whole of the fest was Kid Stretch. In the breaks between the contests, the street dance crews Couple Issues, Da Yonkers and Funkers impressed the audience by presenting unique chorographies.
Later at night, the contests were followed by live concerts from Long3 (Antithesi), Zinon & Mondi (Voria Asteria), The Allergics, Anima Nation and Hat-Trick, top ranking bands of rap, reggae, funk & punk rock music. The area of the square was overflowed by people who wanted to experience the concerts of their favourite artists.
